Linear Layouts in Submodular Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
Linear layout of graphs/digraphs is one of the classical and important optimization problems that have many practical applications. Recently Tamaki proposed an O(mn)-time and O(n)space algorithm for testing whether the pathwidth (or vertex separation) of a given digraph with n vertices and m edges is at most k. In this paper, we show that linear layout of digraphs with an objective function such as cutwidth, minimum linear arrangement, vertex separation (or pathwidth) and sum cut can be formulated as a linear layout problem on a submodular system (V, f) and then propose a simple framework of search tree algorithms for finding a linear layout (a sequence of V ) with a bounded width that minimizes a given cost function. According to our framework, we obtain an O(kmn)-time and O(n+m)-space algorithm for testing whether the pathwidth of a given digraph is at most k.

متن کاملRobust inter and intra-cell layouts design model dealing with stochastic dynamic problems
In this paper, a novel quadratic assignment-based mathematical model is developed for concurrent design of robust inter and intra-cell layouts in dynamic stochastic environments of manufacturing systems. In the proposed model, in addition to considering time value of money, the product demands are presumed to be dependent normally distributed random variables with known expectation, variance, a...

Diversified retrieval and online learning are two core research areas in the design of modern information retrieval systems. In this paper, we propose the linear submodular bandits problem, which is an online learning setting for optimizing a general class of feature-rich submodular utility models for diversified retrieval. We present an algorithm, called LSBGREEDY, and prove that it efficientl...
متن کاملSubmodularity and greedy algorithms in sensor scheduling for linear dynamical systems
This paper focuses on sensor scheduling for state estimation, which consists of a network of noisy sensors and a discrete-time linear system with process noise. As an energy constraint, only a subset of sensors can take a measurement at each time step. These measurements are fused into a common state estimate using a Kalman filter and the goal is to schedule the sensors to minimize the estimati...
متن کاملordered sets , and submodular functions
Recent developments in the use of greedy algorithms in linear programming are reviewed and extended. We find a common generalization of some theorems of Queyranne–Spieksma– Tardella, Faigle–Kern, and Fujishige about greedy algorithms for linear programs in diverse contexts. Additionally, we extend a well-known theorem of Topkis about submodular functions on the product of chains to submodular f...
